Hurricane Delta made US landfall near Creole, Louisiana on Friday, October 9, forcing residents to flee the area and damaging houses and roofs.
Images shared by an eyewitness showed an 18-wheeler truck on its side in Lake Charles and damage to buildings in Lake Arthur.
The hurricane was reported as a Category 4 storm when it hit the Mexican coastline earlier in the week. On Friday, the hurricane was measured at a Category 2.
Delta, now a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, hit land at 6 p.m. Friday near the Gulf Coast, the NHC said.
