Tropical Storm Hanna lashed northern Mexico over the weekend, flooding residential areas, swelling canals and toppling trees after leaving a trail of destruction along the coast of Texas.
Weakening from a hurricane as it headed west over land, Hanna's center on Sunday was about 35 miles from Monterrey, as it moved 9 miles per hour, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Monterrey has been largely spared the full wrath of Hanna, with nearby Texas worse affected.
